You can actually learn something if you can hold your laughter to hear the word he's trying to deliver.

Actually, he screams like nobodies business. This is the reason I believe that some people are more entertained than saved by just the way he comes across.

Memphis Music Producer DJ Squeeky Recovering In Hospital From Car Accident

LINK:

http://www.memphisrap.com/2008/12/26/memphis-music-producer-dj-squeeky-recovering-in-hospital-from-car-accident/#more-8658

In unfortunate news, Memphisrap.com has learned that legendary Memphis rap producer DJ Squeeky of 47 Mobb and Mo’Cheda Records, who’s viewed by the Industry as one of the founding fathers of Memphis buck music, the roots to Crunk music, was involved in an accident last Friday night/Saturday morning at 3am which has left the ‘beatmaker’ hospitalized.

“He had a very brutal accident… From him blacking out,” Memphis rapper Yung Kee of 47 Mobb told MemphisRap.com.

Further details revealed that Squeeky, after just ‘touching down’ back from Atlanta on business, took a dose of strong medicine and after coughing furiously at the wheel, blacked out, which caused the accident.

“He was just coming back from Atlanta. He had a little cold, he was kinda sick.. It was some medicine, and he took the medicine and the medicine was too strong,” Lil Lody, the youngest member of the 47 Mobb, told MemphisRap.com. “So while he was driving - he coughed, he had already been coughing and stuff, so when he coughed — it made him black out, the medicine was so strong, he just blacked out, it made him blackout,” added Lil Lody.

Kee and Lody both confirmed to MemphisRap.com that Squeeky suffered from a broken hip, broken bones to his face and bumps and bruises that has left the producer facing up to 3 months in hospital recovery, but Squeeky is already looking to recover maybe sooner.

“He’s getting better as the days go by, he broke his hip, he broke part of his face, and a few bumps and bruises, but Squeeky is a soldier, he’s healing fast!” Kee told MemphisRap.com. “He’s already up moving around a lil bit everyday!”

Both Kee, Lody and the whole 47 Mobb are asking for fans’ support and best wishes during the healing stages of their friend and somewhat mentor, DJ Squeeky, as Lil Lody states, “Everybody keep him in your prayers.”

“We’ve got alot of new stuff coming.. that’s my dawg, my ace ‘boon’ — that’s who be teaching me,” Lody added.

“Most definitely we need prayers and support from everyone,” stated Yung Kee. “It’s hard for us right now, but it’s getting better as days goes by! He’s also talking now..,” added Kee.

Before his accident, Squeeky recently produced the track ‘Welcome Back’ for Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy and was preparing to continue recording work for his solo album release as well as other releases from off the 47 Mobb brand and outside of the squad.

In related news, both Yung Kee and Lil Lody have new album projects coming soon. Yung Kee’s latest album “Perfect Timing” is in stores now and features the single “I Be On Dat Good,” which recently had a music video released for the song.

PROJECT PLAYAZ "BUCK WITH ME":

Crunchy Black: Climbing back up a steep rap ladder

By Andria Lisle
Friday, December 26, 2008

Crunchy Black's appearance at the Hi-Tone Café tonight has been a long time coming.

It's been nearly three years since his highly publicized split from Three 6 Mafia, and were it not for a new song, "R U Ready," getting spins on K97, fickle fans would've deemed the rapper ancient history.

Local industry insider Hosea "M-town" Mayes, co-founder of MemphisRap.com, says that Black has the potential for a comeback.

"He brings higher expectations than most," says Mayes, adding, "If he doesn't come out with something good, they'll come down harder on him.

That said, we've got tons of Three 6 fans coming to MemphisRap.com."

Rattling off a list of former Three 6 affiliates, Mayes says, "Lord Infamous, Koopsta Knicca, Crunchy Black -- they don't forget about those guys too quickly. (Black) just needs to focus on who his audience is and build his own fan base."

"It's an uphill battle," says another observer, local promoter Freddy Hydro, who worked with Memphis rapper La Chat shortly after she left the Three 6 fold.

Even Black says he's faced with a Sisyphean-sized task.

"It's harder doing Crunchy Black than if I was somebody brand new," the rapper (real name: Darnell Carlton) says.

Personally and professionally, Black's life is defined by tough breaks.

His mother was incarcerated in a women's prison in Indiana when she gave birth to him in August 1974.

Nine years later, Black watched helplessly as his grandmother died of an asthma attack. By then, Black was already flirting with trouble -- so he ran away from home and began accruing gangsta merit badges for petty, and then serious crimes. Soon, he was bouncing in and out of jail.

Then Black joined forces with childhood friend Paul Beauregard in the burgeoning rap group Prophet Posse, which, by the mid-1990s, morphed into Three 6 Mafia. Success, via platinum-selling songs like "2-Way Freak," "Ridin' Spinners" and "Stay Fly," came quickly.

On March 5, 2006, Black's career reached its apex when he joined Beauregard and Three 6 co-founder Jordan "Juicy J" Houston onstage at the 78th Academy Awards ceremony, accepting an Oscar for "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp."

A few months later, Black left the group, just as Three 6 was riding a pop culture wave that included their own MTV reality show, "Adventures in Hollyhood," and appearances on "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and "Beauty and the Geek."

Black says, "It wasn't the big stuff that mattered -- it's the little stuff that hurts. I was already planning on leaving before the Oscars, but I thought if I stayed a little bit longer, more folks would know me."

Leaving the group wasn't easy. When he walked out on Jordan and Beauregard, Black lost his best friends. And, when Three 6's Hypnotize Minds imprint released two substandard Crunchy Black solo CDs, On My Own and From Me To You, which were culled from sessions for their 2005 album Most Known Unknown, his reputation plummeted.

Undaunted, Black rented a house in East Memphis and filled a spare room with recording equipment from the Guitar Center.

"All my friends were gone," Black says. He laughs ruefully, then corrects himself. "I had people who were hanging on, who weren't my friends in the first place."

On his own for the first time, Black strove to create new songs the only way he knew how "riding the beat and painting pictures in my head."

"I was talking to God about the work I was doing on my own, and I was spending all my time in the studio, because God said I needed to give it 100 percent," he says.

"I could make 'hood money, but I wanted to make real money, so God told me I didn't need a real producer -- I needed someone who could talk money."

At that moment, Glen Booth knocked on the door to get the rent.

The 43-year old property manager became Black's manager -- and now, under the aegis of "Da Real Hardhitters, Inc.," the two are hustling new tracks produced by Atlanta beatmakers Gahsh and Big Reef to major labels.

"Crunchy is a very intelligent person. He just doesn't have the music business experience. Hopefully [success] will come with time, but if he was gonna jump out, he should've done it immediately after Three 6 Mafia," Hydro says.

Yet there's no going back for Black.

"Being on my own, I've tried to focus on giving the people a change," he says. "I'm trying to bring gangsta music back the right way, with a crunk-wise vibe and a better message."

"At the concert, I'll be doing songs from old to new -- Three 6 songs, and new stuff that's getting ready to drop," he says.

In the studio, it's another matter entirely.

"I'm not against how [other rappers] are living, but their lyrics limit them," Black says.

"No more 'funky bitches,' no more weed songs, no get high songs, no powder songs. I've got other things I can talk about -- the good part of life."

THE SOUNDCLASH TRAILER (A NEW ORLEANS BASED BEAT-BATTLE)

WOW!!!!!

This is crazy, mane. New Orleans, Louisiana is killing the underground game with these beat battles. My man Lyrikill of the Eupham collective has been hosting these things and bringing out the best in the tri-state area and quite honestly...I'm hating...lol.

It is rumored that the beat-battle is coming to a city near you as they are going to be touring with the Soundclash crew going to other cities to make it a national showcase in 2009.

Here is a nice trailer showing some great highlights of the Soundclash.

The Commissioner Speaks... [OVAGROUND EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW W/ DJ MICK BOOGIE]

"The Commissioner"

You know its something special when you hear that infamous drop.

DJ Mick Boogie a.k.a. The Commissioner has done in 2008 what many mixtape DJ's attempt to accomplish in a few years time. From his timeless mixes to his innovative mixtape concepts, he is taking this artform to another plateau.

DJ Mick Boogie (per wikipedia) was born Mick Batsyke in Youngstown, Ohio and in the last few years have become one of the premier mixtape DJ's in the country.

He has collaborated with the likes of Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, Little Brother, Kidz N The Hall, Busta Rhymes, J-Dilla and Talib Kweli.

In 2008 alone he has released 2 critically acclaimed mixtapes, Viva La Hova (Jay-Z/Coldplay) and Adele 1988 that are rumored to be strong contenders in ALL of the major mixtapes award shows this year.

He is the house DJ for the Cleveland Cavs and a constant touring DJ in the U.S. and overseas. In fact, he did this interview via his Blackberry and we at Ovaground SounDZ are appreciative that he took time out of his busy schedule for this interview.

We wanted to gain some insight on those projects and try to see what's going on with the Commissioner and his League Crew (who includes Wally Sparks, Terry Urban and affiliates The Kickdrums). So, I present the man, the myth, the MIXTAPE legend...DJ Mick Boogie.

-L'Daialogue

____________________________________________________

This past year, you have been known for creating high profile mixes and blends. Are you in particular going to release a mixtape exclusively with those classic Mick Boogie remixes that you have posted on your MySpace page during the year?

Hmm... No. But all of those have appeared on one project or another thruout the year. So they are all available!

Your latest project is called Adele 1988.What made you want to even to do a reinterpretive project using Adele? Who came up with the idea? What was the recording process for getting the tracks together for that project?

Sony came to me with the idea after hearing Viva la Hova, and we fleshed out the concept. From there, it was time to Learn the music. Decide what samples I wanna hear. Come up with rough skeletons of how it should go. Meet with my producers and have them flesh it out. Release it to the world!

Do you believe you are becoming to go to man for all high profile mash-up projects?

Not at all. But I'm glad people respect my creative ideas and marketing.

What was your thought process in choosing the artists that contributed to the Adele 1988 project?

Well, all of the producers are guys who see my vision and I work with them frequently. Rapperwise, I kept it simple. Naledge and Pooh are good friends and big names. And they both love Adele. So it was perfect!

You have just come of a big release with the Viva La Hova (Jay-Z/Coldplay mixtape). Did you feel that since you set the bar so high that you had to continue with the mash-up’s of this magnitude?

Nope. I'm content if I never do another one. However, if the right idea comes along, we will do it.

Can we expect some more alternative-styled mixtapes from you?

Definitely. The Mick Boogie brand is so much more than hiphop!

You are also working to help out many unsigned acts. Can we expect to see some more Mick Boogie projects associated with up-and-coming producers and artists?

As far as up and coming, all my faves were on the VH1 Honor Roll mixtape I did. Those guys all deserved that shine. And yeah... I always spotlight up and comers.

Finally, I know you hear this 100's of times a day but alot of unsigned artists ask about getting down with you on projects. How can they do that properly and in a business manner?

Hit up my partner Terry Urban at TerryUrban@gmail.com. He coordinates all of that for us.

What is next for Mick Boogie (project-wise) going into 2009?

More travelling. It seems I'm deejaying in a different city every week. Also,
I have a cool project called Re-Construction coming in the spring.

Thanks!
Mick Boogie

I hate UNITED AIRLINES but I'm back in Memphis..so THE KAING'S HOME!!!

(Disclaimer: This isn't an indictment on United Airlines as a whole but only my experience. And with that...them succas still get a middle finger, homey.)

Okay,

So yesterday I'm hoping a flight out from L.A. to Memphis and this is usually a no-nonsense flight seeing that Memphis is Northwest' hub city. But, I went through hell and unlike myself I kept my composure (sort of)...

I got to my flight in the early morning at LAX and my ticket said U.S. Airways so I'm thinking my flight is on U.S. Airways. In a normal world, this would be true. I soon found out that it wasn't.

The lady at the counter tells me that my flight was on United as it was only 15 minutes to depart. So, I Carl Lewis-it about a mile in a half in track star fashion only to have the lady at United say that the flight already departed.

Then, I had to wait in a line with all of the other losers that haven't even booked a flight and check out what the lady says:

Lady- Okay, so did you miss your flight?

Me- (thinking "Is that written on my face, lady?")Yeah, I need another flight to Memphis. On my itenerary, it says U.S. Airways and then I get to the counter and they say United. What's up?

Lady- Well, we book flights for each other. I'm sorry for the mix up.

Me- What??? (here's where the expletives come into play) So, when I go to McDonald's, I should expect a Big Mac? What kind of stuff is that?

Lady- I'm sorry, sir...here's your tickets. I will put you on a priority flight to Memphis.

After that, I go through the check portion and security dude keep looking at me funny. I'm thinking, "Maybe he's trying to insure the safety of all passengers and taking the extra precaution of looking at my ID."

Yeah, right...

The girl tells me that I was selected to be searched. How was I
SELECTED? I didn't ask for them people to rub between my legs and not even offer me some money for it.

So, after they snatch out my Roland mixboard and my SP-404...the officer was like "You must be a producer or something, right?" I was like, "Yeah, something like that" as I walked to catch my already late flight.

But, even as I waited...I saw my boy Bryon (what up mane?) and slid him one of the hundreds of Bluff City Daialogue joints I had that the officers didn't search. So, I was still enterprising even as I was being profiled.

So, after all that....ya' boy is back in the city mane. If you're out this way, get at me mane. The king is home...and will be in the studio on vacay. Get at me.

RIAA to halt lawsuits, cozy up to ISPs instead (A good read especially if you like to download like...anything off the 'Net)

What’s up...what's hap'ning?

Seeing that I download like a fool and set up content to download, this should affect me.

Like I said, “should” affect me.

People are going to download point blank. Like I have said before…too little, too late. The fight marches on between the downloaders and the content providers.

Sooooo, download as much as you want but know that the consequences are about to get real.

Yeah, right…lol.

At last, the music industry admits what we've known for years: That filing music swapping lawsuits against teenagers, little old ladies, and corpses is a fool's errand (not to mention an expensive headache for the defendants). But don't worry—the RIAA has something new up its sleeves.

The new strategy (as reported by the Wall Street Journal): If the music industry finds out that you're swapping music files online, it'll send an e-mail to your ISP (agreements have already hashed out agreements with "some" unnamed service providers, apparently), which will in turn forward the message to you—probably with a little "P.S." asking you to stop. [Update: CNET has a copy of the RIAA's form letter to ISPs.]

If you don't stop, well ... your service provider probably won't sue you, but it might slow down your broadband connection, or cut off your service altogether.

So, why has the RIAA changed the play? Well, maybe it's been looking at reports like this one from the NPD Group, which shows that U.S. CD sales continue to slide, while the number of tunes shared via P2P sites continues to increase, despite all the litigation.

And then there's the disastrous headlines, as the RIAA relentlessly tracked down and sued tens of thousands of alleged music pirates. Among them: Kids, octogenarians, and a few dead people.

Reaction to the news? Mixed. Engadget's headline reads (in part): "RIAA finds its soul," with the story noting that while the RIAA reserves the right to go after "heavy uploaders or repeat offenders ... it appears that single mothers are in the clear."

All Things Digital has a darker outlook, speculating that ISPs—which "care about the cost of moving lots of data around … [and] want to make money by selling, renting, or just offering up Hollywood's movies and TV shows to subscribers"—might be more than content to "cut off file-sharers … [or] simply [charge] heavy file-sharers a lot of money."

And here's another possibility, courtesy of yours truly: Say your ISP catches you sharing tunes via P2P. No problem—download away! But when you get your next cable bill, you'll find the itemized songs added to your monthly charge, kind of like an iTunes bill.

Call it the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" strategy.

P.S. Make no mistake—just because the RIAA has stopped filing new music-swapping lawsuits doesn't mean that it's dropped the existing ones, according to the Journal. Quite the contrary.

Lil' Wayne's "Dying" lawsuit delayed

Ohhhh, I can't believe it (c) T-Pain

You mean to tell me that if I have a mixtape track that is poppin' enough to get played on the radio....but I'm making no money...I can STILL get sued???

This is madness. I know 2008 is Lil' Wayne's year but the article below can give a little insight into the situation that seems to sound like it is going to be a landmark case like that Biz Markie case in the early 90's.

I though you could sample if you didn't make a dime off of the sample? But, maybe not...

Cash Money Seeks Extension In "I Feel Like Dying" Lawsuit

Lawyers for Lil Wayne and Cash Money records have requested additional time to review documents in a copyright infringement suit filed against them last May.

The lawsuit, filed by South African born singer named Karma-Ann Swanepoel, alleges Cash Money did not have the clearance to sample her track "Once" on Wayne's "I Feel Like Dying."

In the suit, Swanepoel states that she had been approached by the rapper's label to sign a deal for the right to use her song. However, the track had already started getting massive airplay and Weezy had already been performing it live during his concerts.

Attorneys asked a New Orleans judge yesterday (December 17) for an extension until Friday (December 19) before they are required to turn over all documents to plaintiff Urband & Lazar Publishing.

Swanepoel is seeking a cash compensation of an undisclosed amount.

NO REGRETS-L.E.G.A.C.Y FEATURING LUNATIC MESSIAH

(from N.C. Chainsaw Massacre; self-released)

Leave it up to L.E.G.A.C.Y. to find a patois-yelling guy named Lunatic Messiah. Also, leave it up to L.E.G. to use the word "zurbert" to explain how he receives fellatio. What does all this have to do him having a sans-regretful career in hip-hop? In case you can't tell, N.C. and hip-hop aren't as synonymous as they were several years ago, and L.E.G. will probably be the first one to tell you that—post-Justus League dominance—it's because creativity and true artistry have taken the backseat to mimicry and mediocrity, both antithetical to what he's presented. As one of the more outspoken members of this area's hip-hop community, LEG's offering on this track is an overt way of not only separating himself from his past relationships in the music business but also ushering himself into another one of his defiant rebirths. He's the friendly jerk, rock star, rapper we all love to hate. He loves that. —Eric Tullis

Hey,

I don't know this guy BUT just off the simple fact that MidiMarc is on the production...I'm going to research.

(Okay after a quick research wiki-Ovaground session per Kev Nottingham):

Seven is formerly known as Apocalypse da Mind Benda of the Winston-Salem, N.C. duo The Nobodies. The Nobodies went on to produced mid-90’s bangers “Fables” in 1997 and “Now Culture” in 2003. Earning his stripes on stage, Seven has been on tour with KRS-One and performed with the likes of The Roots, De La Soul, C-N-N, and others.

Now in 2008, Seven returns with his new release Ridin’ High on Sire Music Group | Domination Recordings. This 9-track EP features bangin production from DJ Forge, Doc, D-Tox, Steven Knox, MIDIMarc, Eagleman, Keelay and Jah Freedom plus guest vocals from Supastition, Equinox, A.P. and Kool Waterz.

Graffiti Artists square off in Hollywood, CA (KWS Member Takes On 2 Taggers)

So,

"...look at a country so free you can dump your trash on the street" (c) Akeem, Coming to America.

Living in Los Angeles (kinda Mid-City...but actually more Beverly Hills/Hollywood)...I have come to respect more graffiti artists in this city. I guess amongst the gang members and other sets, this is a way to truly respect the beauty of this city and to give some of these out of towners some free advertising and direction to not getting their heads knocked off their shoulders.

This video below is an encounter of some sprayers that squared off in Hollywood and the way I see it...these cats ride as hard as gang members. The one set I hear is KWS..(which I first heard about on MURS/9th Wonder's 3:16 album). Here is some of the third verse of 3:16:

I'm from the home of Double K, nothin' but trouble gang
KWS's, LTS's, OFA's
And every other crew that used to rack cans and spray

So, I have the graffiti "knockout" video plus the 3:16 joint so you can have both frames of reference. Don't mess with the taggers, mane...lol...or you will be found in the fetal position, folk.

I PERSONALLY deaded the low-key Soulja Boy beef...so on to new things....like Hip-Hop music, blogging and stuff like that. It's more to come this week going into the last few of the year...(it's almost '09 ya'll)

Charles Hamilton is NO Soulja Boy Part 3 (THE FINAL PART) (Ovaground Editorial by L'Daialogue)

Aight,

After a cool weekend of seeing this whole Charles Hamilton/Soulja Boy thing BLOW up to epic proportions…I call for a truce.

I like both of them. It’s like they have a Ying/Yang connection to each other (let me get a little philosophical Charles…lol). It’s sort of like Brooklyn in the early 90’s.

You had Biggie Smalls [Bad Boy], Boot Camp Clik (Buckshot, Sean P etc.) and M.O.P from Brooklyn. They were 3 different styles that came out and even though they HAD there respective disagreements on how to represent that borough (they REALLY had some problems over Biggie blowing up with that ‘jiggy’-Brooklyn representive vibe), but everybody got along because somewhere down the line, they knew they needed each other to differentiate themselves.

In Charles and Soulja’s case…it’s the same. Soulja Boy is just as much Hip-Hop as Biz Markie and MC Hammer. I mean, don’t front because he dances because that can be a whole other discussion on break dancing and it’s significance to the Hip-Hop genre.

Charles is the lyricist just like a Nas, Scarface or Snoop Dogg (and yes I used those 3 different guys because they have CLASSIC genre changing albums under their belts despite what anyone believes). So, they are connected at the hip not because of this argument but by them existing in the same genre AT THE SAME TIME.

It’s beautiful people….it’s deeper than either one of them want to believe (whether they like it or not).

Now, Mr. Hamilton responded to my first post with this comment:

You know what? I'm not even mad at the post... just feel where I'm comin from.

How do you think Joe Budden would feel if someone asked him on the air "How does it feel to be the new MC Hammer?" after Joe put out a dance track?

Despite sales, there's a bit of artistic integrity that gets disrespected when people misunderstood. I've made my point clear over and over again. I just needed to vent... holla back... good read...

And in that particular light…I feel him wholeheartedly.

I worked in radio (promotions…ahhh the Clear Channel memories) and I know how stuff gets recorded, edited and emailed to worldstarhiphop.com, youtube.com and other places for a viral marketing campaign for some upstart blogger or hater ass intern (and those words can be interchangeable).

But, also I would want Charles to peep it this way. Your grind is ridiculous. I feel like by even extending yourself to this level only hurts what you are trying to do. I had this same situation happen to me a few years ago and being that I was younger at the time, I hopped into it ripping cats up and dissing hard. But, it didn’t do anything for me and it didn’t do anything for my career and also moved to a street level off of some Hip-Hop stuff.

At first, I didn’t understand the whole Sonic/Sega theme. But then I thought about Charles speaking on the Mauritian Sega’s and things and that is a cool angle. Now I understand him that more on that level. Hopefully, more fans will too.

But, diss songs??? Let’s dead it now because even though it’s semi-between you and Soulja…people are ignorant and it’s a recession. Not a good mix. Plus, you’ll have more people hating not even knowing why they are hating (doesn’t it ALWAYS turn out that way).

SO, THE BEEF IS OVER NOW!!!! (even though Charles stated that it was over, I’m saying it again).

And this means fans too. DEAD IT and let’s get to the money (and the respect...it's Hip-Hop people).

Get the Charles Hamilton’s Pink Lavalamp and iSouljaBoyTellEm’s new project. And get that new L’Daialogue (lol)…and thanks to Charles for being human and NOW being a hustler and getting back at it…

We need the lyrics, mane. We need the dancing, too.

Holla back. And for good measure…I’m bumpin’ both for the Christmas holidays.

P.s. I would have posted the so-called diss song…but hey as I DEAD this beef…let’s ride to both of these releases. Check ‘em out:

NeNe from Real Housewives of Atlanta EXPOSED!!!!

They should've gave ya'll niggaz money (c) Dave Chappelle

Awwh mane,

My girl NeNe is getting her card pulled by some haters...

If you don't know who NeNe is...she is one of the stars of the Bravo! reality show "Real Housewives of Atlanta". Now, she...like many others...are facing real money woes due to the economy and the news investigation team at a local Atlanta news station is hot on her trail.

Dang, that's messed up.

Check out the story (and the hate):

Charles Hamilton is NO Soulja Boy Part 2????? (Ovaground SounDZ Editorial by L'Daialogue)

Dear Ovaground'az (that's the new name/term),

WOW!!!

Now, come on. I have expounded upon this nonsense a few days back and it's still going on.

Charles...dead it dude. Soulja is a kid!!!!!

I understand you respect his grind and hustle but please????

I mean...we know you have this Sonic stuff going and all...but hey, I thought it was all fun and games. Now, you're dissing. That's reaching a little. Actually, that's reaching a lot.

I honestly think that you don't have real beef with Soulja Boy. It SEEMS like you have a little bit of jealousy in YOUR heart. But, I respect your grind and along with your hustle...you will blow soon TOO.

But, the so-called diss track that you have is un-called for. Is the real problem the radio??? If that's the case....beef with Interscope. You're on a major with Soulja.

But, dissing the Auto-Tune (which is so cliche) among other things...is WACK!

Read Charles Hamilton's GROWN UP response to the whole situation and come to your own conclusion.

Is it REALLY hate for Soulja Boy or something else?

Straight to it...

Let's start with the whole ThisIs50 move...

A few days before The Pink Lavalamp dropped, I do an interview with ThisIs50. This is where they asked me about my comments on Shade 45. The interview in which I snapped about Soulja Boy. After the interview, they said "Hey we can do some major things for your album". I said "talk it out with management".

They did.

The next thing I know, The Pink Lavalamp was set to be released on ThisIs50. My management team said that everything was worked out and so on and so forth. I know all the blogs are close. New Music Cartel. Mind you, this had nothing to do with Interscope, especially since no Interscope money has been spent on The Hamiltonization Process.

The first time we spent Interscope bread on a project for me was the "Brooklyn Girls" video.

50 and I are actually cool, but how he feels about what I should do in this situation is FAR from what I'm doing...

Now. Onto the beef.

The kid saw the video interview with me explaining why I went off in the interview. Obviously, he didn't hear the question before my comment, because it's not even available online (the audio). He puts out a hilarious video to defend himself, and after I watched the video, I just laughed. Around that time, I had a freestyle to submit for HipHopGame.com. I'm featured as their Artist of the Month. Cool. So at the end of the freestyle, I just commented on the situation, saying what they say in meetings at the label. That's it.

It gets labeled as "The Soulja Boy Response", which takes any merit away from how lyrical the track is.

Around this time, I see and hear "Head Shots", SB's "lyrical diss track". I was kinda stuck, because, well, it sucked, but the fact that he's USING RHYMES to get at me is crazy. And if it was an old freestyle, they timed it's release perfectly. So that's 2 videos from Soulja Boy that are direct and potent, against a well-edited interiew and a mislabeled record from me.

I get a bunch of phonecalls yesterday, as well as emails, texts, and other forms of ePestering about what I should do next. Chris Lighty, 50 Cent, Amanda Diva, Al B Back, a whole HOST of people chimed in to tell me what to do next. My f*ckin mother even chimed in. I was sooooo close to just WYLIN on wax and REALLY be looked at as a scumball. But no. An idea I had earlier in the week (when I was bored and half drunk listening to "Can't Believe It") ended up being what I saw as a satisfactory response to ALL the drama I been going thru.

Now, to be real, this is holiday season. Muthaf*ckas should be worrying about being with family and staying warm. I just found out that I ACTUALLY HAVE FAMILY IN THE ISLAND OF MAURITIUS!!!!!! That means a whole f*cking lot to me, and if you did your homework on the Mauritian Sega, you'd REALLY understand why this Sonic sh1t isn't a joke. But we'll get there when the time is right...

I don't know what more to say. I feel like I just made mad sense. I know I made sense. It's more than just music to me, and I've said that. I honestly don't care anymore. Love me or hate me, I'm here. Enjoy your holidays, I'll enjoy mine. I'm either going to Mauritius or Ohio. MAD family stuff to deal with. It's something about this time of year, man...

Music Producer, Drumma Boy, Receives 2 Grammy Nominations, Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance

I love seeing my city doing good. Shouts out to Drumma Boy (throw me a track mane...lol). Check out the Memphis producer's Grammy nods and upcoming projects.

He puts on for my city....

-L'Daialogue

Multi-platinum beat maker Drumma Boy receives two Grammy nominations for production work behind “Put On” f/ Jeezy & Kanye West (Best Rap Performance) & T.I’s Paper Trail (Best Rap Album)

Multi-platinum music producer Drumma Boy born Christopher Gholson who was born and raised in Memphis, TN has been nominated for two Grammy’s for the production of “Put On” featuring Young Jeezy and Kanye West for Best Rap Performance and T.I’s album “Paper Trail” for Best Rap Album.

Drumma Boy is not the only Southern hip-hop nominated for an award, actually, for this year’s 2009 Grammy Ceremony, the South takes over the list of nominees with artists like Lil Wayne, T.I., Young Jeezy, Ludacris, T-Pain, Andre 3000 and Flo Rida. Drumma Boy, who has actually worked with all the aforementioned artists as well as Yung Joc, Rick Ross, Paul Wall, Gorilla Zoe, Plies amongst others.

Meanwhile, the Grammy nomination categories Drumma Boy is up for like Best Rap Album are for Drumma’s production on four tracks on Papertrail, the fourth highest debut album of 2008, including the hit single “What Up, What’s Happenin” as well as “My Life Your Entertainment” f/ Usher, “Ready for Whatever” and “You Ain’t Missin Nothin,” and for Drumma’s composition of the blazing track “Put On” f/ Young Jeezy and Kanye West which has been nominated for “Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.” The song “Put On” f/ Young Jeezy and Kanye West reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks and Mainstream R&B/Hip Hop charts.

Drumma Boy says the nominations come from his “work ethic and consistency.” “I have practiced my craft faithfully for 11 years - a routine that has lead me to opportunities such as producing for T.I.’s Papertrail as well as Young Jeezy’s “Put On” featuring Kanye West,” stated Drumma Boy. “I believe that any dream can be accomplished with proper follow through.”

The young producer, 25, actually comes from a musical background in Memphis, Tennessee, where Drumma Boy’s destiny was solidified as a young child with a mother who was an opera singer and a father who was a professional clarinetist and music professor at the University of Memphis, the first African-American man to hold the 1st chair position in the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.

“My dad taught me everything I know about traditional music and had me playing the clarinet at age 5 but it was my mom that introduced me to Curtis Mayfield and 70’s oldie, so my style now is a reflection of all of that, classical, soul and street music,” stated Drumma Boy.

Now the 25 year old music producer, Drumma Boy, who sites producers Quincy Jones, Raphael Saadiq & The Funk Brothers as his inspirations, may, with good fortune, be on his way of being a Grammy Award winning producer and possibly, even at his young age, become an inspiration to others that follow.

In related news, Drumma Boy has also recently teamed up with another Memphis-Atlanta based music producer Jazze Pha for the talent show “Welcome to Dreamland.”

As recently reported, Drumma Boy and Jazze Pha appear on “Welcome to Dreamland,” which will air on Peachtree TV/Turner Broadcasting, and aims to try to help upcoming musical talent get on the track to stardom by performing in front of a studio audience and a panel of judges as they pursue their dreams at a successful career in the music industry. Performers will be put through an intense development process with producers, songwriters, stylists, designers and photographers. The show will be a six episode series that will debut with back-to-back episodes on Jan. 19th at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Subsequent episodes will premiere on Monday nights at 10 p.m. with finale set for Feb. 16th.

Word??!...thats whats up. I'm up to the usual beats and whatnot. I've been doing alot of writing also. I'm gonna be featured on some joints real soon...and I'm trying to get my feet wet as a rapper.

>>>>Now you say......"for real.....like who?"

I'm glad you asked. I'm working on songs right now with K. Sparks, Seven, Travis Williams, and as soon as I stop dragging my feet me and CP can start work on our project.

Oh yeah...the fresh produce.....BTW, I've found that my fresh produce sounds even better if you listen to it while actually eating some fresh produce. I recommend yellow squash with this weeks produce....try slicing the squash into quarer inch medallions..or maybe just rough chops...sautee in olive oil....Extra Virgin of course with some salt, pepper, and oregano. If you're feeling frisky enough, you might even cutt up some onion and red bell pepper into the pan also. Finish your listening and eating experience off with your favorite flavor of Kool-Aid. No Limit's Fiend signs to Jay-Z's Roc Nation???

Hey,

"Whomp, Whomp" (c) Fiend

I, like many others in the South around the mid-90's was rolling with No Limit Records and the whole No Limit Family. And everybody had their favorites and Fiend was one of mines.

Fiend had flow...and I mean vicious flow and he was one of my first tastes of the city that I would soon call home later in life: New Orleans.

So, peep out one of my favorite former No Limit soldiers and his "rumored" move to Jay-Z's Roc Nation imprint.

It's good to see my favs still grinding it out...damn, can I get a No Limit reunion???

Fiend Responds To Roc Nation Rumors

December 11, 2008 | Paul W Arnold

Yesterday (December 10th) Allhiphop passed along the rumor that former No Limit and Ruff Ryders artist Fiend had finalized a new deal for himself with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label.

HipHopDX spoke to Fiend yesterday to see if the rumors of his signing with Jigga are actual fact.

“All I’ma say is throw ya Roc signs in the air, throw ya diamonds up,” replied the man who took his rap moniker from the classic Eric B & Rakim cut, “Microphone Fiend,” when asked how his recent talks with Hova should be reported.

But, when asked for official confirmation of his signing with Roc Nation , “ Mr. Whomp Whomp” clarified the rumor that a deal is done by saying, “It’s not necessarily confirmed just [yet]…So, let’s just say I know my man Jay been listening and been a fan like I been a fan of his…I’m not gonna say that like the ink is dry and a check has been deposited or nothing like that…That [rumor] was just I guess like some type of leak out of great things to come period.”

While coyly trying to avoid completely letting the cat out of the bag, the gruff-voiced verbalist did confirm that he and Jay-Z have indeed been building with one another of late after Hov reached out to Fiend a.k.a. Sleepy Eyes Jones , and maybe surprisingly to some not the other way around.

“No one really has a line on Jigga like that [to get at him],” Jones keenly noted. “Me and Jay-Z respect each other [though]. You’d be surprised who your peers are.”

In the rumored report of his inking with Jay-Z and Roc Nation it was stated that Fiend ’s former Ruff Ryders labelmate, and current Roc-A-Fella artist, Jadakiss coordinated the union between Jones and Jigga . But while during his conversation with DX Fiend didn’t specifically note whether or not ‘Kiss played a role in facilitating his current dealings with Jay , he did make it abundantly clear that he and Jadakiss have maintained their relationship since they first began working together seven years ago.

“I fuck’s with Jada heavy,” said Fiend. “I produced on the first Jadakiss album [“What You Ride For?”], and also have production on his [new] album [on] a track featuring Young Jeezy [“I’m Somethin’ Else”].”

Fiend’s production and songwriting credits have grown in recent years unbeknownst to most. With the assistance of his business partner/manager Mousa , he has amassed a lengthy resume of rap hits that have bore his fingerprints in one way or another via his Crack Alley Music . Most recently C.A. contributed to affiliate Rodnae’s production on “DontGetIt,” the stirring Nina Simone -sampling closer to Lil Wayne’s triple-platinum, and now 8-time Grammy nominated, Tha Carter III.

Freelancing for various artists on various labels, “Captain Hook,” as Fiend is known to some in the music biz, has been spending the last few years as a “Street A&R” primarily for Atlantic Records. A creative consultant of sorts, Fiend assists artists with the production of their tracks or the writing of their hook (in some cases entire verses), or does both. It has been previously revealed by other media outlets that Fiend has at different times been the musical guide behind Hip Hop peers Trina , Twista , Trick Daddy , B.G. , Paul Wall , and even a few R&B acts including Trey Songz and Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls .

“I’m trying to pull it off on the production, rhyming, [song] writing, R&B,” said Fiend. “I been doing all this shit.”

The New Orleans native is presently adding his magic touch to the upcoming sophomore album from Hurricane Chris, Trill Entertainment’s youngest-in-charge, 12-year-old Lil Trill, and Cash Money CEO Baby. The two onetime members of rival N.O. labels recently knocked out a handful of new Birdman songs.

And soon, if all goes according to plan, Fiend will be assisting a former No Limit comrade as he attempts to resume his recording career following a lengthy stint in a Louisiana correctional facility.

“[He’ll] be home real soon,” said Fiend of Mystikal. “He’s four months short [of his release]. And it’s already [been] discussed how we working, and what he doing as soon as he come home. And I guarantee you, 100% guarantee you, you gonna see some Fiend / Mystikal collaboration.”

Unfortunately, one collaboration of No Limit artists fans of the once mighty label won’t see is the reunion tour that was reportedly planned to start before the end of ‘08 and was to include Fiend , Mia X , Mr. Serv-On , and Mo B Dick performing past hits from their stints as No Limit soldiers during the mid-to-late ‘90’s.

“I can’t confirm that,” Fiend replied when asked about the reported tour plans. “Man, [starts singing ‘wait ‘til I get my money right’]. Mia is like a mother, big sister. Serv, its all love. Mo B, it’s all love. It’s all love with everybody, but man, if the money ain’t right my manager ain’t ‘bout to fuckin’ call me.”

Even with the reunion tour now on ice, Fiend may still be revisiting his No Limit past soon, specifically his platinum 1998 debut for the label, as he told DX he is flirting with the title There’s One In Every Family 2 for what will presumably be his first full-length for Roc Nation .

And with his return to the national radar, Fiend should find the respect with a new generation of fans he may not have received from the masses a decade ago, many of whom saw No Limit as merely a movement of the moment whose artists would have no real staying power. But from his classic solo single “Talk It Like I Bring It” [click to watch], to his new Lil Wayne assisted buzz cut “Gangsta Muzik” [click to listen], one of No Limit’s true talents has managed to outlast his detractors and is now setting his sights on bringing back that rowdy energy to a comatose Auto-Tuned rap arena and dropping his signature ‘whomp whomp’ announcing that Fiend is back on the scene.

“Niggas don’t talk like this here [no more],” he observed of his current competition. “It ain’t happened like this here since the last time you heard ‘R-E-N spells Ren but I’m raw.’ Look, Tip the king, but there’s a pharaoh in this muthafucka, ya feel me?”

And just for memory sakes, some classic No Fiend:

DJ Don Cannon Leaves The Aphilliates

Man,

This week is not going too well. This is NOT cool. I don't know what personally happened between Dj Don Cannon and The Aphilliates but this must be a very big void in the camp for this to take place. And I just spoke to Cannon's brother a few months ago about a mixtape...so this is BIG.

I know that they still have the racketeering case still pending over there.

Something isn't adding up.

Does it have something to do with money? Egos? Does it have something to do with Young Jeezy saying "Fuck Dj Drama!"? Or the recent CTE/ Aphilliates brawl at the Dirty Awards?

Just read and judge for yourself because you know some more things are going to be released soon.

-L'Daialogue

December 10, 2008 | Omar Burgess

After working with the Aphilliates on an official album and countless mixtapes, DJ Don Cannon confirmed he left Aphilliates Music Group via press release yesterday. Cannon will now be managed by Disturbing Tha Peace co-founders Chaka Zulu and Jeff Dixon.

"The split is merely a business and creative difference, musically, nothing to do with the personal relationship. We are on good terms, and speak often," Cannon stated.

The press release also states Cannon and AMG officially parted ways back in January "due to business and creative differences for the vision of Cannon Music, LLC." In addition to the trademark "Cannon” drop found on many of his tracks, Cannon’s production work includes "Everybody Hates Chris" by Ludacris, "Go Crazy" by Young Jeezy and 50 Cent’s "Man Down." Together, Cannon and DJ Drama created critically acclaimed mixtapes such as Lil Wayne’s Dedication series, T.I. and P$C “Meet in the Streets” and Young Jeezy's "Trap or Die".

Cannon did the majority of his work behind the scenes as a co-CEO of Aphilliates Music Group. His name made headlines in 2007 when he and DJ Drama were arrested on charges of bootlegging and racketeering for making industry sanctioned mixtapes. Since then, Cannon has done production and engineering work on dozens of albums. He was also named Mixtape Producer of the Year at the 11th Annual Mixtape Awards in May 2008.

Charles Hamilton is NO Soulja Boy??? You think...(Ovaground SounDZ Editorial by L'Daialogue)

I feel that public relations and marketing is vital to the music industry and branding an artist. I can tell people I’m from Memphis and the first thing that they think of is Three 6 Mafia if you’re speaking about rap music. I don’t hate that. I just keep moving until I get a chance to open up my lane.

Trust, that when you hear my music…there wouldn’t ever be a mix up again.

This is the same for many other places. Hundreds of other emcees get that same comparison depending on what you focus on.

But the reason I am bringing this up is that our favorite New York upstart Charles Hamilton is catching feelings over a recent comparison to Soulja Boy in a radio interview. He stated that: “I'm not trying to play Soulja Boy [but] chill. It's because of Souja Boy that my day to day, the way I live, the Sonic the Hedgehog [stuff] that's dead real to me is considered a joke.”

Now, come on Charles. Your style is based off of Sonic the Hedgehog. You have a cool little explanation to it but that’s called MARKETING. I don’t care how real it is to you, the general public doesn’t distinguish it that much different than the fake Ja Rule doll that he told his son not to play with in the “Wanksta” video. I don’t care if you don’t like Soulja Boy but you and he exist in the same Hip-Hop that a Luke and a Nas did in the early 90’s. It’s the same Hip-Hop that a Mobb Deep and a Tag Team existed in.

So, I understand that you’re trying to separate yourself as an entity from Soulja Boy and all that...but you both exist in the same space so ACCEPT it. He’s not going anywhere soon. You’re not going anywhere either. We need what he’s kickin’ as well as what you’re kickin’.

I love your passion, man. But, aim that venom toward the imbalance of radio and the music industry. Not toward a kid (that’s not too much a difference age-wise I assume) that happen to have been successful because I bet if the table was turned…people would say the same thing about you.

“Look at that Hamilton cat. He thinks he’s so fly with that Hedgehog stuff. He is killing Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop ain’t that Sega Genesis crap.” [Paraphrased from a Hamilton hater off a blog site]

So, hey…answer questions in these interviews. But, don’t down the next man because it may be you. I mean Charles…you do want to be successful right?

-L'Daialogue

O.J. Friday: Lockdown Edition (Whitey 1-Black Folks Got Something Better Than That)

Man,

We were winning. And a good 10+ years at that.

The white man was losing and for a good majority of my teenage years, the O.J. trial was the catalyst.

And that was up to what you considered losing.

But, as long as we had O.J., we could piss off White people to no end. That wasn't the best thing but it was all we had. I mean the O.J. acquittal was up there with white people not being able to say the word "Nigger".

Dang.

See, now these people (mostly of the Caucasian persuasion) can sit back and say “Look, Negro…he got what was coming to him. Just face it.” But, I can’t.

Sure we can speak on plenty of white folks that got off the hook for shady stuff i.e. pillaging Plymouth Rock, slavery, Jim Crow, affirmative action. But, some would say the statue of limitations is way past being up and plenty of other excuses to deny us that victory in any form.

But, hey...we don’t need O.J. anymore. We have so much more to look up, too. Actually, we are about to have a Black President in our lifetimes. That is bigger than any acquittal Johnny could get for us (R.I.P). We also have Michael Jackson and R. Kelly (but I’m sure that not too many Black people call those “wins” per se).

But so much has changed between now and then. So, in celebration of the good old times when we stuck it to Whitey, check out the acquittal video again:
